The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Architect specializing in Cloud Infrastructure Automation to join our Digital Technology Enablement team. The successful candidate will work with architecture, operations, and development teams within the Digital area of Shaw’s Business Management Applications department. The candidate will be accountable for defining cloud governance and designing / building / supporting our tooling which enables Infrastructure Automation and Repeatability leveraging your advanced skillset with Amazon Web Services.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a strong cloud software development background. Is a team player, comfortable working at a fast pace, and carries considerable experience with enterprise software and platforms, systems integration and management, excellent knowledge of technical concepts, and extensive knowledge of systems and application architectures (client-server, distributed, layered, etc..)

A typical day

• Develops, documents, and ensures compliance with best practices including but not limited to the following: cloud development standards, object-oriented design, platform and framework specific design concerns
• Interfaces with the architecture team and other functional areas to ensure that most efficient solution is designed to meet business needs
• Ensures solutions are well engineered, operable, maintainable, and delivered on schedule.
• Participates and contributes on the design, architecture, and implementation of our Digital cloud-based solutions
• Enable our development / operations teams by automating AWS service provisioning via CDK/Cloud Formation/CLI
• Develop tools and create processes for automated continuous integration and delivery of services
• Develop and improving Infrastructure as Code
• Provide guidance and training to our development / operations teams
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Your skills/experience

• 7+ years in systems design and development at a Senior or Technical Lead level
• 3+ years’ experience in cloud computing with a focus on Amazon Web Services
• AWS Certification in either Architecture or Developer tracks
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting AWS production environments
• Preferred experience with open-source software, industry standards, continuous integration, DevOps, Agile and object-oriented & modular design
• Programming/Scripting experience in one or more of the following languages: TypeScript, Python, Shell, Java, JavaScript, Go, etc.
• Awareness of various software development models, including devops, iterative, agile (SCRUM, Kanban), and test-driven development
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate different processes and assimilate into cohesive, common processes and associated toolsets
• Ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries
• Excellent oral, written, analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills
• Understanding on how to scale applications depending on load
• Experience designing and deploying web-based services
• Familiarity with continuous integration/deployment processes and tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, Gerrit, GitHub, Git, TravisCI, Maven and Nexus

• This position requires the successful completion of a criminal and credit background check.
• This role is not location-specific: Applicants will be hired in any Shaw location and will not be required to relocate for this role.
• This role may require approximately 10% travel to Shaw locations (post-pandemic).
